  • Late/Absence Procedures

Please report all absences by telephone or email: office@stgiles.herts.sch.uk by 9.15a.m. daily.

If you think you might be late, could you please help out the office/kitchen by phoning or emailing your child's lunch choice? Due to time restraints, it may not be possible to provide lunch if you arrive after 9.15 a.m. without advising the school of your lunch choice.

At St Giles' Primary School we take attendance very seriously. We know that any time missing from your child's learning is extremely difficult to get back. Things move so rapidly in school; the pace of learning, new topics, friendships and even the method in which we grow children's confidence all rely on children being in school every day so they don't lose out.

Choosing whether to keep your sick child out of school can be difficult. There are government guidelines for schools about controlling certain infectious diseases at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/health-protection-in-schools-and-other-childcare-facilities/chapter-9-managing-specific-infectious-diseases. These state when your child/ren should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.

If you do keep your child at home, it's essential that you phone the school to inform them of your child's absence and explain why.

If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, please let the office or their teacher know.
