I am delighted to welcome you to our website as the Head Teacher of St Giles’ C of E Primary School. With the school being in the heart of our community, I feel in a truly privileged position.
St Giles’ Church of England Primary school sits on the edge of Potters Bar in the small village of South Mymms. Whilst many people might not be aware of us, we have actually been in the village for over 180 years and were one of the first schools in the Potters Bar area. In 2017, we celebrated 60 years on our new site where people came from far and wide to join us. The success of the 60th anniversary shows what a special place St Giles’ really is.
St Giles’ is a small school of just over 100 pupils, where children are educated in mixed year groups. Our recent inspection from Ofsted said that we are a good school, but we want to make the school even better. Our excellent staff are in the process of making that happen. We are a school that respects tradition but also strives for innovation – what other school are building soap box carts with their pupils one minute and dancing around the maypole the next?
What really leapt out at me when I first came here was the positive feeling you get when you walk in the door: perhaps it’s the history of the school, maybe it’s the friendly atmosphere you get in a small school where all the children know each other’s name, or maybe it’s something else that I can’t quite put my finger on? What I can tell you is that whatever that warm feeling is, it’s something that lots of people comment on when they visit and it’s a feeling that stays with you. Perhaps this is why so many people come back to visit us time and time again?
Please take the time to look around our website. You can find all of the statutory documents on here, as well as a snapshot of the learning that takes place, the weekly bulletin and diary dates.
