Creative Curriculum

At St Giles C of E Primary, we believe that we offer our children much more than the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. Our philosophy is that children learn through enjoyment and engagement – success through work and play. As a result, we have developed a blocked approach to the curriculum, where individual subject areas, or topics, are taught for a number of weeks. This means that our pupils really explore a topic in depth, and allows the staff to develop the work around the children’s interests and take the learning in a sorts of directions. We try to introduce topics in exciting ways, so that the children are instantly hooked in. This may involve a school trip, an outside visitor coming in, or a special day planned to get things started with a bang. We regularly share our learning with parents through class assemblies too. Singing and music are an important part of what we do, as well as regular sport, dance and drama, where we offer a range of opportunities for children both in and out of school.

Most importantly, our curriculum reflects our commitment to the Church and the values of Jesus in our everyday lives. Please take the time to look at our gallery and class pages so that you can see for yourself the sorts of things we do.
